Netherlands Group Tour - Leg 8: EHAL - EHGG
We are on the home stretch of the PAPA HOTEL Virtual Flying Club Netherlands Group Flight! During our last leg we’ve arrived at EHAL Ameland aerodrome and we’ve got only 2 more legs to go. Leg 8 is the longest one of the tour and we’ll visit 2 small aerodromes, EHDR Drachten and EHOW Oosterwold, on our way to EHGG Groningen Eelde Airport.

Description
After flying over the town of Schiermonninkoog, we’ll follow the coastline of the island to the east. We’ll continue this heading until the small island of Rottumerplaat and turn right heading 13 degrees, aiming for the Eemsharbour on the coast of the mainland. From here it’s just a short flight, past the city of Delfzijl to visual reporting point NOVEMBER where we enter the circuit of EHOW Oosterwold. Circuit pattern altitude for Oosterwold is 700 feet. Build up areas surrounding the aerodrome shall be avoided at all times.
At the end of leg 7 of the Netherlands Group Tour, we found a parking spot near the little tower of EHAL Ameland aerodrome. This is a great place to spawn your new flight again. After take-off, we’ll turn out of the circuit to the south and fly a heading of approximately 205 degrees through the Wadden Sea Corridor. Avoid flying over the town of Hollum when exiting the circuit. Minimum altitude within the corridor is 1000 feet, outside the corridor 1500 feet due to the many birds living in the area.
At the city of Harlingen, we’ll follow part of the famous Eleven City ice skating tour in reverse. At the city of Grau we’ll head northeast towards the Burgumer Lake, so we can enter the circuit at EHDR Drachten aerodrome from the north. When flying your approach or departure, depending on the wind direction, avoid flying over the build up area and keep close to the road on the northeast of the city of Drachten. When the wind is coming from the east, this will make an offset final for RWY07 and you have to factor in a turn very close to the runway. Circuit pattern altitude for Drachten is 700 feet.
After your touch ‘n go or landing, exit the circuit to the northwest when RWY25 or northeast when RWY07 is in use and head northwards to the big lake, Lauwersoog, near the coastline of the Wadden Sea. Keep in mind that the Lauwersoog is a nature reserve, just like the Wadden Sea, and a minimum altitude of 1000 feet is mandatory. We recommend an altitude of at least 1500 feet, as we’re flying north towards the island of Schiermonnikoog next.
As leg 8 is the longest of the tour, I don’t think we’ll land at EHOW Oosterwold and just do a touch ‘n go instead. After exiting the circuit, we’ll depart the area to the north and fly around the CTR of EHGG Groningen Eelde Airport towards visual reporting point YANKEE. Here we’ll start to fly the YANKEE Arrival into Eelde. K apron, in front of the tower, is not the biggest, so when we’ve got a lot of participants during this flight, L apron, next to the KLM Flight Academy, might be a suitable option to park our aircraft after landing.
