Netherlands Group Tour - Leg 5: EHMZ - EHHV
I hope you all have reached Midden-Zeeland aerodrome during the PAPA HOTEL Virtual Flying Club Netherlands Group Tour. During the last 2 legs I’ve experienced some technical issues that kept me grounded. I hope I can solve this issue before the next date and join you on leg 5 to our next destination: EHHV Hilversum.

Description
We’ll start leg 5 of the tour at EHMZ Midden-Zeeland. A good place to load the aircraft will be at one of the parkings around the tower. After take-off, we’ll head north west towards the Oosterscheldekering dam. The dam is a movable storm surge barrier that normally stays open, preserving the natural tidal ecosystem while still protecting the Netherlands from severe flooding. It’s one of the largest engineering projects in the world and a key part of the Delta Works.
After we’ve flown over the Schouwen-Duivenland island, we turn east and fly across the Grevelingen Lake. We follow the river delta upstream to the Hollands Diep. At the bridge we turn north and follow the motorway to Dordrecht. Feel free to make an orbit over the old city center, as this is the oldest, and arguably the most beautiful of the cities of Holland. When we follow the Noord river to the… north, we should be able to see the windmills of Kinderdijk. Yes, this leg is all about visiting a few of the most touristy locations of the tour!
Before you leave Dordrecht, do make sure you contact Rotterdam Tower at 118.205. Request ‘transition of the CTR from Kinderdijk, via the river to visual reporting point HOTEL’. Do make sure that your intentions are to re-enter the CTR via the HOTEL Arrival for a full stop landing. EHRD Rotterdam Airport will be a great location to have a short break to get an extra cup of coffee for the second part of the flight.
After our stop over, we’ll depart EHRD Rotterdam Airport via the MIKE Departure towards the city of Gouda. After we’ve exited the Rotterdam CTR at MIKE, we’ll briefly follow motorway A20 north before following motorway A12 east towards Utrecht. At Utrecht we can overfly the old city center for some scenic views and head towards the intersection of motorways A27 and A28. From here we’ll turn north towards EHHV Hilversum. Make your choice for your approach to the aerodrome based on the weather conditions and runway in use. A great tool to determine this would be Navigraph Charts, or the charts available in the eAIP from Luchverkeersleiding Nederlands.
If you’ve joined us for all legs so far and you’ve made it to Midden-Zeeland, congratulations! You’ve now completed 554 nautical miles and little over 5 hours and 35 minutes of air time. We’ve got ‘only’ 505 NM and 4 hours and 20 minutes of tour left.
