Netherlands Group Tour - Leg 2: EHTW - EHBK
During the first Leg of the PAPA HOTEL Virtual Flying Clubs Netherlands Group Tour, we’ve flown from EHLE Lelystad Airport to EHTW Twente airport. On Wednesday 26 November 2025 we will continue our journey with leg 2, from to EHBK Maastricht-Aachen Airport. After departure, we’ll fly over the Achterhoek to Nijmegen and from there we’ll follow the river Meuse south to Maastricht.

Description
Choose a starting location at EHTW when you launch Microsoft Flight Simulator. It might be advisable to slew your aircraft to a slightly different location on the airfield, especially when you load in at the Vliegclub Twente, as the scenery has not too many parking positions available.
We’l depart the airport, either to the south west or east (depending on the wind direction), in accordance with the VFR Flight Procedures stated in the Aeronautical Information Publication from the Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland website in section EHTW AD 2.22. Flight Procedures.
After departing the ATZ/RMZ of EHTW, we’ll make our way towards the town of Haaksbergen, just south west of Enschede. From here we’ll fly over the region of the Achterhoek. Take your time to admire the rolling green landscapes, charming villages, and historic castles meet warm hospitality. Whether you’re cycling through scenic countryside, savoring local cuisine, or exploring medieval towns, the Achterhoek invites you to slow down and enjoy authentic Dutch life at its best.
‘In between’ the bridges at Nijmegen over the river Waal, we’ll turn left heading south. In the distance you should be able to see the river Meuse already. If you don’t, you shouldn’t have taken off for a VFR flight… We will follow the river stream upwards to the south. It shouldn’t be too difficult, no need for complex VOR, NDB or GPS navigation. The river will take us to the airport!
The only thing to consider: 13 NM south east of our turn at Nijmegen starts the CTR of EDLV Niederrhein Airport. This is class D airspace from the ground up to 3000 foot. It’s your choice: climb over, above is class E airspace (free without compulsory ATC communication), or request clearance to enter the EDLV tower airspace. You might request clearance from DutchMil as EDLV might not be manned by IVAO Germany.
Near the city of Roermond, we’ll enter the ‘boot’ of the Netherlands. Here we’ll switch frequencies from DutchMil to Beek Tower at 119.480. You can download a handy Netherlands frequency chart for your VFR flights below. Beek Tower not only controls the airfield, they also control the airspace in the south of the country. A bit further south, at the town of Born where VDL has its large automobile manufacturing plant, we’ll start the BRAVO Arrival into EHBK Maastricht-Aachen Airport.
If you’ve joined us for both legs and you’ve made it to Maastricht, congratulations! You’ve now completed 217 nautical miles miles and little over 2 hours and 15 minutes of air time. We’ve got ‘only’ 842 NM and 8,5 hours of flight left.
Live Stream
‘What happens if I can’t make it?’ Well, don’t you worry! We’ve designed and shared all information so that, if you can’t join us online, you can fly the route yourself. If you do want to take part, but rather not fly online, you can always join us during our live stream. That’s right! PAPA HOTEL Dutch Scenery Design will live stream ALL legs of the Netherlands Group Tour on our YouTube Channel!
